How are socio-political topics discussed in social media?
Over the past few years, the importance of the internet and social media as opinion-forming media has increased enormously and has largely pushed back conventional journalistic sources, especially for young adults. However, there is a risk of not being able to recognise and assess the origins and intentions of Internet sources and thus being easily manipulated. The seminar will use examples to show how to differentiate between reliable facts and fake news and how filter bubbles and bots can systematically direct our focus. Derived from this, in a further step, it is considered how a critical handling of internet media can be positively designed and how data literacy can be developed.
